Ball-tampering scandal

The cricket world is still in shock from the scandal caught on TV:

Australian bowler Cameron Bancroft tampering with the cricket ball.

Bancroft “ruffed up” one side of the ball, in order to create a Reverse Swing when the ball is thrown. A Reverse swing is harder to play, which means that the batsman will be less likely to hit the ball accurately and win runs.

The captain had given Bancroft some yellow sandpaper (used to maintain their bats) to roughen one side of the ball; the illegal action was caught on camera.

Captain Steve Smith and David Warner have received a one-year ban, and Smith has been replaced by Tim Paine as captain. The culprit, Cameron Bancroft, has been given a nine-month suspension.

Premier League

I think I speak for all of us when I say that Man City are looking good and keeping up their winning streak. They’re obviously stronger than they look and have crushed the teams that underestimated them, even though they have had some close scrapes with some rival teams.

Thankfully the tension is over; they’ve won the Premier League!

I wish them the best of luck in their matches.
